Level 3 Award In Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF)

In line with guidance provided by the Health and Safety Executive, (HSE) the objective of this qualification is to support learners in learning to administer emergency first aid.

The course covers the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident, and how to recognise signs and symptoms of injury and illness. It also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED, providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolemic shock.

This qualification is usually achieved by taking a one-day classroom-based course, of which six hours are supervised and guided.

Upon completing this course, learners are fully qualified to act as emergency first aiders in the workplace for a period of three years, after which point they will have to re-take the course. Additionally, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

Assessment consists of two parts. The first is a practical observation, completed throughout the course of the delivery, which assesses learners’ ability to demonstrate first aid skills. The second is made up of written and oral questioning, in which learners must provide a short response to set questions, concerning underpinning knowledge of first aid.

Level 3 Award In First Aid at Work (RQF)

This qualification is usually achieved by taking a three-day classroom-based course, of which 18 hours are supervised and guided.

Learners who complete this course are fully qualified to act as emergency first aiders in the workplace. It is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually, as this qualification lasts for a period of three years, at which point they will have to re-take the course.

The two-part assessment for this qualification comprises a practical observation and a written and oral exam. First-aid materials, equipment and facilities
When the assessment has been completed we can then advise you on the materials, equipment and facilities needed to make sure the level of cover identified as necessary will be available to employees at all relevant times. This will include ensuring all first-aid equipment, suitably marked and easily accessible, is available in all places where working conditions require it.

First-aid personnel
Where the first-aid assessment identifies a need for people to be available for rendering first aid, the employer should ensure that they are provided in sufficient numbers and at appropriate locations to enable first aid to be administered without delay should the occasion arise. Where 25 or more people are employed, even in low-hazard environments, at least one such person should be provided.

Level 2 Award Safe Moving & Handling (RQF)

Suitable for new starters and refresher training, this qualification is an introduction to moving and handling activities for those who need specific training in manual handling. This course teaches learners that it is important for moving and handling must be carried out correctly, for a safe working environment to be maintained.

Subjects covered include the reasons for safe manual handling, manual handling risk assessments principles, types of equipment, and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety.

This qualification takes 90 hours in total, of which 54 hours are recommended for guided learning. TQT and GLH values are based on average learners, and assigned as guidance.

Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence which must cover all assessment criteria of the units selected. The portfolio of evidence is assessed and internally quality assured by the Centre.

Level 2 Track Maintenance

This program aims to engage adults and provide sufficient knowlege, skills and understanding that they need to prepare and train for employment or further education in the rail industry sector. This will cover:

Level 2 C&G NVQ Diploma in Railway Engineering Track Maintenance
Provide the learner with the understanding of track layout, operational procedures whilst working on the track, H&S aspects of the rail industry, manual handling techniques, how to carry out a track inspection and how to maintain the track itself.

Personal Track Safety (PTS)
This qualification is mandatory in the rail sector and allows the holder to gain access as well as work on the railway. This qualification is made up of e-learning, classroom participation and practical elements.

DC Conductor Rails (DCCR)
Any person going to walk or work “On or Near the Line” near to or adjacent DC Conductor Rails must be competent to look after their own safety in relation to 3rd and 4th rail areas.
